National United University (NUU) continues to strengthen its academic and student exchanges with Japan’s Colleges of Technology (KOSEN). On August 17, 2026, NUU welcomed students and faculty members from Japan upon their arrival in Taiwan. The following day, NUU held the 2026 Japanese KOSEN Summer Internship Welcome Ceremony and Faculty Advisor Meeting, officially marking the beginning of the month-long professional internship program from August 18 to September 22.

This year’s participants come from five Japanese KOSEN colleges: National Institute of Technology, Ube College; Matsue College; Niihama College; Anan College; and Oyama College. Based on their academic backgrounds, the students have been assigned to various departments and laboratories at NUU, including Business Management, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electro-Optical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Architecture, where they will engage in research and practical learning with NUU faculty members and research teams.

To welcome the visiting students and faculty members, NUU arranged an airport reception at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on August 17. Staff members from the International and Cross-Strait Affairs Section and NUU student volunteers assisted the participants with transportation, arrival, and accommodation arrangements. Throughout the program, student volunteers will also help the visiting students become familiar with campus and daily life in Taiwan, creating opportunities for interaction and friendship between students from Taiwan and Japan.

On August 18, NUU held the Welcome Ceremony and Faculty Advisor Meeting, with Vice President Ben-Hsuan Lin welcoming the Japanese delegation on behalf of the university. The event was attended by Jia-Hong Kuo, Dean of the Office of Research and Development; Chia-Heng Cheng, Section Chief of the International and Cross-Strait Affairs Section; Ju-Mei Wen, Director of the Chinese Language Center; Chin-Chuan Han, Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering; Tzu-Chieh Chou, Assistant Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering; and Chun-Wei Tsai, Assistant Professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering , along with graduate students involved in the internship program.

The Japanese delegation was accompanied by Associate Professor Shuji Hironaka of National Institute of Technology, Ube College, a member of its International Exchange Office, and Noor Farahnaz of National Institute of Technology, Niihama College, a member of its Global Education Center. Associate Professor Hironaka delivered remarks on behalf of the Japanese delegation. Following the ceremony, students met with their NUU faculty advisors and research teams, who introduced their laboratories, research areas, and internship arrangements in preparation for the professional training ahead.

In addition to laboratory-based professional training, the program incorporates Mandarin courses, industry visits, cultural experiences, and student exchange activities, allowing participants to experience Taiwan from academic, linguistic, and cultural perspectives. Toward the end of the program, students will also share their research and learning outcomes through academic exchanges and poster presentations.

NUU has long been committed to promoting international student mobility and partnerships through student exchanges, short-term programs, professional internships, and faculty and student visits. By integrating professional training with meaningful student interaction, the 2026 Japanese KOSEN Summer Internship Program further strengthens NUU’s partnerships with Japanese KOSEN colleges and provides students and faculty members from Taiwan and Japan with opportunities to deepen mutual understanding and build stronger connections for future educational and academic collaboration.
